Hello! We are seeking a full-time intern to work at Writers House Literary Agency in Manhattan. Intern will be working directly for the Founder of Writers House.We're looking for a strong critical reader, capable of making decisions quickly and defending those decisions articulately. Candidate should be personable and at ease in an office environment, and must love talking about books. Although we focus on commercial fiction and nonfiction, personal preferences outside of these genres are more than welcome.Internship duties consist of reading queries, proposals, sample chapters, and manuscripts, writing clear, prescriptive reports on these readings, writing draft submission letters, some light admin work (mailings and filing, usually once a week or every two weeks), among other things.Intern will also be trained in the many different aspects of agenting, including contracts, foreign rights, BAITS software, etc., as well as in the specific day-to-day tasks of being an assistant to a literary agent.Hours are 10AM-5:30PM, five days a week. Length of internship is 3-6 months. Although the monetary compensation is small ($300/month stipend), the opportunity for placement within Writers House or at another agency or publisher is extremely high.
