Healthy Neighborhoods is a suite of programs designed to improve healthy food access and knowledge in four neighborhoods within New York City (fifth coming soon). Working directly with residents, businesses, and community organizations, City Harvest's goals are to relieve food insecurity, build nutritional knowledge at the individual, family, and community levels, and increase the access people have to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables.City Harvest needs an experienced Transportation Manager to report to the Senior Manager, Food Transport. The Transportation Manager will be located at City Harvest's Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City, NY. This person will manage employee work and evaluate performance, including the administration of discipline as appropriate. The manager will also need to be accessible to all areas of the dock, warehouse and interior of vehicles at the dock or in the yard. As the manager you will conduct pre-shift meetings, provide education to employees as necessary, and support labor relations with Local 804.Key Responsibilities: • Manage the hourly workforce, inventory distribution and operational resources, including trucks, radios and material handling equipment.• Evaluate the on-time performance of each City Harvest driver utilizing GPS technology.• Conduct observation rides and street inspections of our fleet. • Partner with Associate Director and Senior Manager on the development of new departmental SOP's. • Implement processes and procedures that promote safe practices, improve vehicle safety, and reduce damages to equipment. • Create reports and trackers for Key Performance Indicators (KPI).• Manage driver payroll process and partner with Human Resources to ensure pay and benefits accuracy.• Support labor relations with Local 804 - enforce Collective Bargaining Agreement as written and serve as the frontline representative for City Harvest.• Investigate, evaluate, report and write corrective actions (when appropriate).• Troubleshoot and resolve actual and/or potential transportation related problems.• Perform other duties as required.Qualifications:• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates or 4 year college degree preferred;• Experience working in a union environment preferred;• Good written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with workforce, peers, supervisors, etc.);• Prior management experience;• Working knowledge of DOT Rules and Regulations, and OSHA Laws;• Able to work without management present and take initiative without immediate local supervision;• Ability to multi-task;• Superior organizational skills;• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Working Conditions:• Dock environment; exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, noise;• Hours may vary due to operational need;• Frequent contact with service center personnel; fast-paced, deadline oriented environment;There are many fantastic benefits to a career at City Harvest.
